Objective To study the improvement effect of quetiapine combined with sodium valproate on mental behav-ioral symptoms and cognitive function in patients with bipolar disorder. Methods 80 patients with bipolar disorder admitted to the hospital from March 2021 to March 2023 were randomly divided into a control group(40 cases)and an observation group(40 cases)using a random number table method. The control group was treated with sodium valproate, while the ob-servation group was treated with quetiapine combined with sodium valproate. After continuous medication for 2 months, both groups observed the patients'mental and behavioral symptoms, the improvement effect of cognitive function, and the inci-dence of adverse reactions. Results After treatment, the Beck Mania Scale(BMRS)and Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMD)scores of both groups decreased, and the decrease in the observation group was greater than that of the control group. The scores of the Simplified Mental State Examination(MMSE)increased, and the increase in the observation group was higher than that of the control group(P<0.05);There was a statistically significant difference in clinical efficacy be-tween the observation group and the control group(95.00%vs 67.50%)(P<0.05);There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(17.50%vs 20.00%)(P>0.05).Conclusion The clinical efficacy of quetiapine combined with sodium valproate in the treatment of bipolar disorder is significant, with significant improvement in cognitive function and good safety. It is worth promoting.
