Commentary on the Proofreading of Geographical Gazetteers of Liu Wenqi and Liu Yusong in Qing Dynasty:Taking The Collation of Zhenjiang Zhi in Song and Yuan Dynasties and The Collation of Yu Di Ji Sheng as Examples
During the Qing Dynasty,Liu Wenqi and his son Liu Yusong,jointly completed the critical edition of The Collation of Zhenjiang Zhi in Song and Yuan Dynasties and fifty-two volumes of The Collation of Yu Di Ji Sheng.Regarding the unorganized editions of the Song and Yuan dynasties,Zhenjiang Zhi(Records of Zhenjiang),Liu Wenqi and Liu Yusong corrected the text,categorized the chapters,and standardized the format,clarifying the mixed content of various records and restoring each to its original appearance.They also utilized newly discovered Song Dynasty manuscript copies of song collaborated on comple(他校),meticulously comparing various editions and focusing on collation.Through the method of Li Jiao(理校),differentiating and analyzing the characteristics of geographical records and with profound knowledge of classical studies,they maximized authenticity and restoring.Throughout the entire collation process,they maintained an open-minded and pragmatic attitude,summarizing collation theories,albeit with occasional errors that do not overshadow the overall achievements.
