The Morphological Difference and Actual Connotation of Road Mileage on Northwest China in Qing Dynasty
Road mileage is an important parameter for assessing land prospects and measuring transportation costs.In Qing Dynasty,road mileage was recorded in detail in official documents such as the society book and local Chronicles,to folk documents,such as business itinerary and travel diary.The Qing Court established the principle of'setting limits according to program'and'checking off in order'in the process of newspaper transmission and material transfer,thereby highlighting the significance of road mileage.Through the detailed investigation of road mileage in Northwest China during the Qing Dynasty,it can be found that there were many forms of road mileage such as'Big Li'(大里),'Small Li'(小里),'Guan Li'(官里)and'Min Li'(民里),each displaying distinct textual differences.Understanding multiple connotations of road mileage in Qing Dynasty is not only an important means to examine the interaction between state regulations and local adaptation,but also holds great significance to deepen the study of transportation history and historical traffic geography.
