Characteristics of Understory Vegetation and Soil Nutrients in Mixed Forests of Loess Hill and Gully Areas
This paper studies the understory vegetation diversity and soil nutrient characteristics of different types of mixed forests on the slopes of loess hill and gully areas and the reciprocal feed-back relationship between the two,and then screens the suitable configuration of vegetation restoration, with a view to providing scientific basis for the selection of vegetation types and configurations in soil erosion prevention and control measures in loess hill and gully areas. In this study, three kinds of mixed forests(Ⅰ),including Pinus tabuliformis × Prunusarme-niacaL(Ⅰ),Pinus tabuliformis X Caragana Korshinskii Kom(Ⅱ),and PrunusarmeniacaL × Caragana Korshin-skii Kom(Ⅲ)were used as the objects of the study, and the traditional soil and water conservation vegetation of Pinus tabuliformis × Caragana Korshinskii Kom(Ⅲ)with similar standing conditions was used as the control. The differences and the interrelationships between the two under the different vegetation types were analyzed by investigating the diversity of the understory vegetation and the soil properties of the 0~60 cm soil layer. Results:All sites were dominated by graminaceous plants, and the number of plant species was mixed forest Ⅱ=mixed forest Ⅲ>mixed forest T>pure forest CK,and the diversity indices were mixed forest Ⅱ>mixed forest Ⅲ>mixed forest Ⅰ>pure forest CK,and the contents of organic matter and total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and total potassium of each site were mixed forest Ⅱ>mixed forest Ⅲ>mixed forest Ⅰ>pure forest CK,and the correla-tion analysis revealed that the Simpson's dominance index and the soil properties of 0~60cm soil layer of Pinus sylvestris were different from each other.Simpson's dominance index was significantly positively correlated with soil organic matter and total nitrogen content(P<0.05),and highly significant positively correlated with total po-tassium content(P<0.05);Margalefs richness index was highly significant positively correlated with soil organic matter, total nitrogen, and total potassium content(P<0.05);and there was close linkage between soil nutrients and vegetation diversity of the various species and their mutual influence. The understory vegetation diversity and soil nutrient contents of the three mixed forests were significantly higher than those of the pure forest of Pinus tabuliformis, and the mixed forest of Pinus tabuliformis × PrunusarmeniacaL.(Ⅱ)had the best comprehensive performance.
