Effects of Quality Improvement,Training and Tending on the Structures and Health of Quercus Variabilis Bl.on the Southern Slope of the Qinling Mountains
A study was conducted on the quality improvement and nurturing techniques of representative forest types of Quercus variabilis Bl.forests on the southern slope of the Qinling Mountains(State-Owned Jinchiyuan Forest Farm in Lveyang County). The investigation and research were conducted on the distribution of diameter at breast height, stand height, stand quality, and stand health of Quercus variabilis Bl.forests before the implementa-tion of quality improvement and nurturing techniques in June 2017,September 2017,and five years after the im-plementation of quality improvement and nurturing techniques in July 2022.The results showed that after 5 years of quality improvement and nurturing in the mixed forest of Quercus variabilis Bl.and Quercus variabilis Bl.on the southern slope of the Qinling Mountains, the proportion of large-diameter trees with a diameter of more than 20cm increased by 8.7%;The proportion of high-quality trees in the cork oak forest increased by 9.52%;The pro-portion of non-healthy trees such as pests and diseases, withered and damaged trees, and frequently dead trees in the total number of trees has decreased by 8.8%.It is fully demonstrated that the implementation of quality im-provement and nurturing technology in Quercus variabilis Bl.forests has significant effects in adjusting the diam-eter distribution of trees, increasing the proportion of high-quality trees, reducing the proportion of dead and dis-eased trees, weakening tree differentiation, and providing more favorable living space and ventilation and lighting conditions for the growth of target trees.
