Evaluation on Carbon Benefits of Restoration in Zekuzequ National Wetland Park,Qinghai
Based on soil organic carbon survey and analysis of Enhanced Vegetation Index(EVI)in the past 20 years, relevant carbon accounting parameters were obtained to evaluate the degradation and restoration status of marsh grassland in Zequ Wetland National Park, and the carbon sink benefit of marsh grassland restoration was e-valuated.The results showed that 92.1%of the marsh grassland in Zequ Wetland Park was degraded to varying degrees from 2006 to 2015.Since the construction of the National Wetland Park in 2016,the degradation of marsh grassland has been improved by 41.9%from 2016 to 2023,and the average annual soil organic carbon has been estimated to increase by 3626.5 t CO2/a.If the protection and restoration of marsh grassland are further strength-ened and all degraded marsh grassland is restored to the non-degraded state, the total carbon sequestration poten-tial in the next 60 years can reach more than 3.02 million t CO2,with an average annual average of 50374 tCO2/a,and the potential ecological and economic benefits are significant. It is suggested to strengthen the guidance and incentive of wetland protection and restoration policies, establish a multi-party participation and co-governance mechanism, implement precise degradation management strategies, strengthen monitoring and evaluation of gov-ernance effectiveness, promote the realization of the value of wetland ecological products, carry out public educa-tion and publicity exchanges, and take multiple measures to enhance the carbon sink functions of wetlands and play multiple benefits of wetlands.
