Analysis of the Trend in Water and Sediment Changes in the Middle Reaches of the Yellow River From 1998 to 2022
The middle reaches of the Yellow River are the main source of sediment in the river. To clarify the char-acteristics of water and sediment changes in this region over the past two decades, this study uses methods such as the Mann-Kendall non-parametric test, moving t-test,and Morlet wavelet analysis to analyze the trends, mutations, and periodic changes in runoff and sediment transport at five hydrological stations in the middle reaches of the Yellow River,Toudaoguai,Longmen,Tongguan,Sanmenxia, and Huayuankou, from 1998 to 2022.The results show that during the study period, except for Longmen station, the runoff at the other four stations showed a sig-nificant increasing trend, while the sediment transport showed a decreasing trend at four stations except for Toud-aoguai.The mutation years of runoff at the five research stations are mainly concentrated in 2005-2008,while the mutation years of sediment transport show no obvious regularity, and some stations did not experience any muta-tion during this period.Wavelet transform reveals that there are multi-scale periodic changes in runoff and sedi-ment transport in the study area. The first main cycle of runoff is concentrated on a time scale of 27-28a,while the first main cycle of sediment transport is concentrated on a time scale of 10 and 31a,with the most intense peri-odic oscillations.
