Application of Sponge City Concept and Technology in Urumqi
This study aims to explore the feasibility and specific methods of implementing the sponge city concept in the arid regions of Northwest China.Taking Urumqi as an example,it assesses the climatic characteristics,geo-graphic conditions and urban infrastructure of Urumqi through literature review,field research and data analysis,and focuses on the design and implementation of green roofs,permeable paving,sunken green spaces and urban water systems.The results show that Urumqi has effectively mitigated urban flooding and water scarcity and en-hanced the city's flood prevention and drainage capacity through the adoption of site-specific sponge city technol-ogies.It is also pointed out that under cold climate conditions,improving the freeze-thaw resistance of permeable paving and perfecting the storage functions of urban water system are the key directions for future improvement.In summary,the successful implementation of the sponge city concept in Urumqi not only provides an important guarantee for the sustainable development of the region,but also provides valuable experience and reference for other arid or extreme climate regions.By combining the actual local conditions and adopting suitable technical so-lutions,sponge cities not only promote the green development of the city,but also lay the foundation for achieving the goals of low-carbon and smart cities.
