Analysis of Lightning Characteristics During Heavy Rainfall in 2023 at Wuhan Tianhe International Airport
Using the FY-4A satellite lightning imager LMI,ground-based lightning ADTD data,radar echo data and ERA5 reanalysis data,taking the first heavy rainfall process in Hubei during plum rain season on June 18,2023 as an example,the 50km range near Hubei Tianhe International Airport was analyzed.The lightning charac-teristics of internal convective clouds were analyzed.The results showed that:①this process was jointly affected by the development of the trough,the eastward movement of the low vortex,the mid-and low-level shear lines,and the development of warm low pressure.The weather situation and environmental conditions are conducive to the occurrence of convective weather such as thunder and lightning;②the active lightning period could be divid-ed into three stages,all of which were dominated by negative polarity;③the distribution of lightning current in-tensity and steepness in the first and third stages was relatively concentrated,while the distribution in the second stage was relatively uniform;the third stage had the largest number of lightning strikes,but the lightning current amplitude and steepness were the smallest;④in the first stage,convective clouds and lightning converge con-verged from south to north and from west to east,with the density of lightning in the west of the airport being the highest.In the second stage,the strong echo moved northeastward,and the lightning intensive area was located in the northern part of Xiaonan District,northwest of the airport.In the third stage,convective cells were active and dispersed,resulting in a long duration of lightning,a large range of influence and multiple nuclear density centers;⑤the dense cloud flash areas detected by FY-4A were mainly in the northeast,east and south of Tianhe Interna-tional Airport.The combination of the two can provide a basis for formulating scientific decision.
