Annotations on the Biography of Ming Emperor Xiaozong's Mother
The background of Empress Dowager Xiaomu,the birth mother of Emperor Xiaozong,is a mystery in the history of the Ming Dynasty.From the mid-Ming Dynasty to the mid-Qing period,the main statement in official and private historical records was that she was born in He County,Guangxi Province.Recently,the author finds that the Chao County Gazetteer(Caoxian zhi)records that she was born in Chao County,Luzhou Prefecture.However,both of these claims have insufficient evidence and still require more historical literature to verify.Nevertheless,the claim that the Empress Dowager was from Chao County is still an im-portant viewpoint that cannot be ignored.
