Liu Yizheng and The Concise History of the Past Dynasties(Lidai shilue)
The Concise History of the Past Dynasties written by Liu Yizheng is a history textbook authorized by the Ministry of Education in the late Qing Dynasty.It was compiled by adding and deleting contents from Naka Michiyo's General History of China(Zhina tongshi).Previous statements on the completion and pub-lication date of The Concise History of the Past Dynasties may be wrong.Through the analysis of Liu Yizheng's deletions and modifications,especially the substitution of"China"for"Zhina",it can be seen that Liu Yizheng's nationalist ideas had already germinated in the early 20th century.Given that there is more borrowing than originality,it is not appropriate to overestimate the value of Concise History of the Past Dynasties.Liu himself was ashamed of taking credit for others'work.
