The Chinese character"Wu"("武"),whether the form of"holding the weapons to conquer"or the sound of"having the same sound as witchcraft",embodies strong martial honour when it was created.The martial tradition of kings in Shang Dynasty corresponded with the form,sound and meaning of"Wu"("武").From Western Zhou dynasty to the Spring and Autumn period,the"military competition"among nobles in the ceremony reflected the idea of ritual and the spirit of nobility.The Warring States period,in which the whole people were"armed",brought heavy disasters to various countries,from Kings to ministers,elites to ordinary people,they had a deeper meditation on the war.After Qin and Han Dynasties,the character"Wu"("武")was always interpreted as"laying down of weapons"in various books,which reflected the complex transformation of Chinese"martial honour".
