From Passivity and Helplessness to Scientific Prevention and Treatment:a Study on the Evolution of Epidemic Disease Responses in Wenzhou from Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China
Epidemic diseases have been threatening human health and even life for thousands of years.In order to survive,mankind has waged a long struggle against the epidemic diseases.From Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China,Wenzhou had frequent outbreaks of epidemic diseases,which not only varied in types but also caused serious hazards to people's lives and life.The occurrence of epidemic diseases in Wenzhou is related to factors such as regional environment,lifestyle,and public health concept.Faced with the epidemic diseases,the people of Wenzhou have undergone a qualitative change,from passively praying to witchcraft and divinity to gradually taking scientific measures for prevention.This is a reflection of the social development and progress of human civilization in this period.From Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China,the epidemic disease responses and evolution of the people in Wenzhou provide important enlightenment for today.
