Under the trend of"performance turn"in tourism research, objectively examining the generating logic of tourists'performance behavior in ethnic villages will provide a reference for deepening the performance theory and optimizing the tourism management of ethnic villages. From the perspective of performance theory, this paper took Dehang Miao Village in western Hunan as the sample, used the grounded theory to classify the text content of the respondents, and explored the generation mechanism of the performance behavior characteristics of tourists in ethnic villages. The results show that:(1)The four main axis categories of stage setting, role interaction, performance alone and perceived distance jointly constitute the core elements of the generation of tourists'performance behavior in ethnic villages. On this basis, the article constructed a framework for analyzing the characteristics of tourist performance behavior.(2)Tourists are active performers, whose performance behavior includes both the interactive characteristics of role negotiation and operation consistency, and the independent performance characteristics of rebellion and obedience.(3)Perceived distance is divided into psychological distance, cognitive distance and individual distance and transcendence. These three factors reveal the deep-level factors of tourists'performance behavior characteristics, which affect tourists'embodiment and identity construction in the ethnic village theater stage. Finally, this paper summarized suggestions and enlightenments from the aspects of enhancing the recreational experience of tourists, promoting the activation and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage tourism, and enhancing the development and management of ethnic villages.
