Research on the Formation Mechanism of Tourist Experience,Collective Memory and National Identity in Red Tourism:An Analysis of User Generated Contents
Under the background of national policy orientation and rapid development of red tourism, this paper aims at the insufficient and weak links of social benefits within red tourism, such as spiritual experience, inheritance of collective memory, and promotion of national identity.Taking nine typical red tourism destinations in China as examples, this study used the grounded theory to encode and analyze the data of User-Generated-Content to reveal the characteristics of tourists'experiences, collective memory and national identity within red tourism.Utilizing Gephi software for analyzing the coding nodes and visualizing the co-occurrence of coding nodes, this study further revealed the formation mechanism of national identity within red tourism. The results show that red tourism experiences include the pilgrimage, commemorating, historical learning, and experiencing the red cultural atmosphere.Collective memory includes cognitive memory, emotional memory, reflection and enlightenment, which reflects the individuality and sociality nature of collective memory. It also revealed the multi-scale nature of place identity and the geographical transition of place identity that is from local identity to national identity. This study further constructed the theoretical model of"red tourism experience-collective memory-local identity-national identity"and clarified the differences in the paths among three different types of red tourism destinations, which reflects the multipath formation of national identity. This research has significant reference value for guiding the high-quality development of red tourism and improving its social benefits.
