The survey of summer birds ’ resources in Shennongjia National Nature Reserve was carried out using line-transect method from July 2011 to July 2013.A total of 140 bird species was recorded , which belonged to 38 families and 13 orders, accounting for 26.87%of 521 bird species in Hubei Prov-ince.Among the bird species recorded , there are 2 species under first-grade state protection , 14 species under second-grade state protection , 28 species under Hubei province protection and 14 national endemic species.The overall diversity index (H), evenness (J), and predominant index (C) of the avian com-munities were 3.846, 0.785 and 0.034 respectively.The similarity index (S) of broad-leaved forest-theropencedrymion avian communities was the highest (0.5526), and broad-leaved forest-water area a-vian communities was the lowest (0.0526).According to the avifauna, 84, 42and 14 species were re-spectively belonged to the Oriental realm , Pala arctic realm and cosmopolitan species , accounting for 60.0%, 30.0%and 10.0%of the total species .The analysis of bird fauna suggests that the East-Asian Group species is dominant .
