Accidents and Compensation Caused by Asian Elephant in Simao District from 2017 to 2020
The situation of Asian elephant accidents in Simao District was investigated,and the land use types and their impact on Asian elephant accident activities were analyzed.The results indicated that since 2009,the number of Asian elephants in Simao District showed a stable and rapid growth trend,while the number of accidents and losses caused also showed an increasing trend,and from 2017 to 2020,about 24 million yuan in economic losses were caused to the public,with 4 casualties,the distri-bution range and number of damaged households were expanded;Asian elephants caused varying degrees of damage to crops,and the frequency of accidents was closely related to seasonal food changes,the monthly loss increased firstly and then decreased;the land use pattern was an important foundation for the dispersal and distribution of the Asian elephant population.This paper suggested to alleviate the human-elephant conflict by building ecological corridors to improve the connectivity of Asian elephant habitat,building food source bases,improving the compensation mechanism for elephant damage,and strengthe-ning the early warning system for Asian elephant.
