Based on the investigation and evaluation of natural protected areas and analysis of protection gaps,this paper studied the integration and optimization of natural protected areas in Yunnan Province according to the related rules.The results showed that there were a total of 324 natural protected areas in 6 categories included in the integration and optimization in Yunnan.During the integration and optimiza-tion process,98 areas were merged,37 areas were transformed,1 areas was split,and 16 areas were re-voked.After the integration and optimization,225 natural protected areas were preserved in Yunnan,with a total area of 4.858 6 million hm2,accounting for 12.68%of the province's land area.Compared with the actual net land area before the integration,the net increase area was 159 700 hm2,accounting for 0.42%of the total land area.The integration and optimization achieved the goals of not reducing the intensity of protection,not changing the nature of protection,and not reducing the area of protection,which improved the quality of the ecological system and the level of biodiversity protection,optimized the spatial distribution pattern,consolidated the foundation of supervision and management in natural protec-ted areas,and promoted the construction of a new pattern of land spatial development and protection.
