A Study of Locality in the Transformation of the Airport to Aerotropolis
Based on the theory of place-making,this article analyses the representation and influence of locality on the airport in its early stage, airport city, and aerotropolis. It is argued that airports should be endowed with histori-cal connotations based on the regional cultural characteristics of different cities to enhance passengers'sense of so-cial participation and establish emotional ties in airport spaces. The research also explores the limitations of a highly uniform and standardized planning model for place-making in airports and suggests that an organic development process be essential for the realization of locality of a place, with a human-centred vision that cultivates the spirit of a place, which in turn makes the airports,as a new urban form, become true"places".
