A Research on the Adaptability of Code-switching in Computer-mediated Communication
Code-switching refers to a sociocultural phenomenon in which communicators use two or more languages or language variants in the course of verbal communication. In recent years,code-switching in verbal communica-tion of Chinese has become increasingly frequent, which has aroused great interest of linguists both home and a-broad.Based on Adaptation Theory, this paper takes code-switching in computer-mediated communication as the research corpus, exploring the motivation of code-switching by means of qualitative text study.Through data analy-sis,the author argues,code-switching is not only a language choice but also a communication strategy, whose pragmatic motivation lies in either passive or positive adaptation in response to language reality and social conven-tions,and to psychological motivation.
