On Literature Accumulation and Canonization in the"Pre-classical Era"
The"pre-classical era",from Xia Qynasty to Zhou Dynasty,is the accumulation stage of historical docu-ments and the starting period of cultural classics. The inheritance of early Chinese literature experienced a transition from spoken language to written language. The problem of"consistency between spoken language and written lan-guage"is an important perspective to understand the reform of written language and the generation of verbal litera-ture in the East Zhou Dynasty, when the early writing system shifted from ceremonial writing to documentary writing and from symbolic power to ordinary text. The Six Arts Classics constituted the public knowledge of the nobility in the Zhou Dynasty, thus the nobility and gentlemen established the classical consciousness through the education of ritual and music and the practice of citing references. With the transformation of historical documents from written records to ideological authority, the writing of classics transformed from political ritual text to historical text and then to ideological text.
