The concept of"androgyny",advocated by Virginia Woolf,has been regarded as a unique perspective of literary creation and criticism,which put an emphasis on the merger of male and female traits in order to achieve a more holistic artistic expression and profoundly influenced the literature in the 20th century.Among contemporary Chinese female writers,CHEN Ran's literary works embody the concept of"transgender writing",echoing Woolf's"androgyny"by depicting the blurred boundaries of gender roles,digging deep into the psychology of characters,employing innovative narrative techniques and exploring the expression of transgender identity in literature.The pur-pose of this paper is to discuss Virginia Woolf's theory of"androgyny"and CHEN Ran's concept of"transgender writing",in order to provide new perspectives and ideas for understanding Woolf and CHEN Ran's literary crea-tions,and also provide ideological and theoretical support for re-examining gender roles and understanding the beauty of individual differences between genders.
