Introduction performance of three red pear varieties in Hunan
The growth and fruiting habits, adaptability, and fruit quality comparison of three red pear varieties,Meirensu,Hongsucui, and Mantianhong, which introduced into Liuyang area of Hu-nan province, were observed and compared. The results showed that the three varieties could com-plete their annual growth cycle normally in Liuyang area, with Meirensu and Mantianhong growing vigorously, stable fruit setting, and yield of 1 400 kg per 666.7 m2.The growth of Hongsucui was slightly weak, with yield of 1 200 kg per 666.7 m2.The coloring of the three varieties was unstable, with severe rust spots on the fruit skin, which had a significant impact on their coloring. The colo-ring of Mantianhong was relatively better, followed by Meirensu and Hongsucui. All three varieties were mature around mid-September,with the single fruit weight over 300 g,fine flesh, and few stone cells. The soluble solids content was 13.0%~13.8%,and the soluble sugars content was 9.05%~9.36%,all of which were the highest in Meirensu, followed by Mantianhong and Hongsucui. The total acid content was 1.13~1.42 g/kg,with the highest in Mantianhong, and similar in Meir-ensu and Hongsucui.According to comprehensive analysis, all three varieties are not suitable for large-scale development in Hunan.
