Effects of exogenous betaine on the seeds germination and physiological characteristics of Pyrus betulaefolia seedlings
The effects of five concentrations of exogenous betaine(0,0.5,1.0,5.0,10.0 mmol/L)on the seeds germination, seedling growth, and physiological characteristics of Pyrus betulaefolia under 100 mmol/L NaCl were investigated, with the treatment without betaine as the control. The results indicated that treatments with exogenous betaine at various concentrations signif-icantly promoted the germination of P.betulaefolia seeds and the aboveground growth of seedlings under salt stress, with the treatment of 1.0 mmol/L betaine showing the most significant impact. The germination rate and germination potential, seedling height, aboveground fresh weight, leaf su-peroxide dismutase, peroxidase and catalase activities, chlorophyll content, and net photosynthetic rate were significantly higher than those of the control and the other three treatments;while the MDA content was lower than that of the control and the other three treatments.
