The Role of Village Forest Rangers in the Prevention and Control of Pests in Collective Forestry
Shangzhi City is one of the key forest areas in Heilongjiang Province,with rich forest re-sources and a wide variety of forestry pests.The collective forest areas in Shangzhi are scattered,with an average annual occurrence of forestry pests covering approximately 3 000 hectares.Due to the absence of state-owned forest farms,the delegation of township forestry stations,and a shortage of personnel,con-ducting pest control work is challenging.The Shangzhi Forestry and Grassland Bureau,leveraging forestry reform initiatives,has adopted multiple measures to actively seek policies from higher authorities.They have recruited over 340 individuals through examinations in various towns to form a team of village forest rangers.This team implements"intensive and grid-based"management of all collective forests in the city,protecting the afforestation and greening achievements of Shangzhi's collective forestry,and maintai-ning the city's forest resources and ecological security.The establishment of the village forest ranger team has played a significant role in the monitoring,early warning,and prevention and control of forestry pests in Shangzhi's collective forests.
