The waterlogging resistance of ‘Jianghuai’ poplar cultivars
Variation of physiological and biochemical indexes of three cultivars poplar ‘ Jianghuai No.1 ’,‘ Jianghuai No.2’ and the control poplar‘ I-69’ under water stress were studied in this paper. The order of height increment of three cultivars after treating 60 days with treatment W3 (shallow water, soil moisture saturation) was poplar ‘ Jianghuai No.2’ > ‘ Jianghuai No.1 ’ > ‘ I-69’,and the conservation rate was 40%,33% and 25% respectively.Biomass of poplar ‘ Jianghuai No.1 ’,‘ Jianghuai No.2’ was both significantly higher than that of the‘ I-69’ under treatment W2 (soil moisture was completely saturated),W3.Variation of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and soluble content were the smallest under treatment W3.The increase of malonaldehyde(MDA) content of ‘ I-69’ poplar was higher than that of others.Chlorophyll content was ‘ Jianghuai No.2’ > ‘ I-69’ > ‘ Jianghuai No.1 ’ and the relative conductivity was also‘ Jianghuai No.2’ > ‘ I-69’ > ‘ Jianghuai No.1 ’ after treating 60 days under treatment W3.Waterlogging resistance of three cultivars of poplar were evaluated with subordinate function method, the results showed that the waterlogging resistance of ‘ Jianghuai No.2’ and ‘ Jianghuai No.1 ’ were stronger than that of the ‘ I-69’,indicating those was suitable for afforestation in the marshland, along the Huaihe River, lakes and other low-lying in Anhui Province.
