Preparation and properties of round bamboo phenolic resin composite pipes
Bamboo is a special renewable forest resource,characterized by fast growth,short growth cycle,and long service life.China is the country with the richest and most widely distributed bamboo species in the world.Currently,China's bamboo industry has evolved into a flourishing,eco-friendly industry that integrates science and technology,ecological considerations,cultural aspects,and economic benefits.It stands as a global leader in terms of the size of bamboo forests,bamboo production,bamboo forest cultivation,and the application technology of bamboo materials and the application technology of bamboo materials.China's bamboo industry research field is in-depth and extensive,and the main research direction including bamboo machinery,bamboo-based panels,bamboo-based composite mate-rials,and bamboo high value-added utilization of technology.In the industrial use of bamboo,it is mostly decomposed into small units of gabions or flattened for processing,while the laboratory research on bamboo composites is domina-ted by bamboo fibers and small-sized bamboo slices,and there are limited application cases where the structural pro-perties of round bamboo are directly used for the preparation of pipes.Taking round bamboo pipes as the object,the preparation of round bamboo phenolic resin composite pipe makes full use of its hollow structural properties,in order to provide a new way for"replacing wood with bamboo"and"replacing plastic with bamboo".Firstly,the permea-bility of round bamboo was improved by delignification.Subsequently,the vacuum impregnation of phenolic resin was carried out,and the feasibility of the resin impregnation composite process of round bamboo was verified by circular pressure curing in homemade molds.At the same time,the dimensional stability,wettability,and microstructural changes of round bamboo phenolic composite pipes molded under different pressure conditions were also investigated.The compression rate test,profile density test and electron microscope observation revealed that the round bamboo composite pipes differed radially,with higher compression densification on the two end surfaces and lower in the cen-ter layer.The cell walls of the round bamboo cells in the inner and outer end faces collapsed and formed a dense struc-ture with phenolic resin,while the microstructure of the round bamboo cells in the center layer changed slightly.The treated round bamboo pipes had higher compression rate and lower radial hygroscopic recovery rate after curing and molding under circular pressure,and the dimensional stability of the round bamboo composite pipe was greatly im-proved compared with that of the untreated round bamboo,while the water absorption and wettability properties of the composite pipe decreased significantly compared with that of the untreated round bamboo.
