Recent advances of wood-derived carbon for degradation of organic pollutants in water via activating persulfate
Advanced oxidation technology based on sulfate radical has received widespread attention in the field of trea-ting organic pollutants in water. The activation of persulfate using carbon materials can solve the problem of metal ion overflow in the traditional transition metal degradation process of pollutants and address the issue of metal ion overflow during the degradation of pollutants in traditional persulfate systems.Wood-based derived carbon is a natural green, low cost, simple preparation process, and sustainable non-metallic carbon material catalyst, which has the potential to be applied in the field of environmental remediation.Wood-based derived charcoal has advantages of low biological toxicity, good stability, graded porous structure, and large specific surface area.Wood-derived carbon is a spherical, fibrous, porous carbon material obtained from wood or its main components through pyrolysis and condensation reor-ganization under high temperature residual oxygen conditions.Wood-based precursors can generate carbon materials with developed pore structures after pyrolysis, also produce carbon materials with rich functional groups after pyroly-sis.The rich pore structure of wood-based derived charcoal also provided the possibility for the adsorption of organic pollutants in water. The research progress of wood-based derived carbon/persulfate systems in the field of wastewater treatment in recent years was summarized, the principle of advanced free radical oxidation technology, preparation technology and performance characteristics of wood-based derived carbon materials were reported, and the mechanism and technical characteristics of advanced free radical oxidation based on carbon materials were emphasized. At the same time,a detailed summary of the effects of non-metallic heteroatom modification on the properties of wood-based derived carbon materials and their ability to activate persulfate was provided. The mechanism and application prospects of wood-based derived carbon catalysts in water environment treatment were summarized.Faced with the increasing growth of forest resources and the increasing combustibles in forests, the utilization of forest combustibles to prepare wood-based derived charcoal can undoubtedly become an important means of reducing the fuel load in forests.Mean-while,this study also provides new ideas for the high-value utilization of wood processing residues and wastes in the wood industries.
