Effect of ZIF-8/nanocellulose on deodorization of bamboo-wood composite fibers
In recent years, with the continuous enhancement of people's requirements for life quality, the demand for fiber materials with specific characteristics such as good deodorization, strong absorption and cost-effectiveness has been increasing in hygienic and health care products, including deodorized diapers for infants and adults. However, the deodorization fibers in the market have some problems, such as poor deodorization performance, weak water ab-sorption,and high cost, which seriously restrict the quality improvement of domestic hygienic products.Zeolitic imid-azolate framework-8(ZIF-8)is one of metal-organic framework materials(MOFs),having large specific surface area and void volume, unique biodegradability and pH sensitivity, and significant loading capacity. It has been widely used as carrier materials for applications in the field of daily life and healthcare.Nanocellulose(CNF)is a renewable organic one-dimensional nanomaterial, which has favorable multifunctional characters, such as large specific surface area, high mechanical property, hydrophilicity and biodegradability. In addition, bamboo and wood are green,low-carbon,fast-growing,easily renewable and degradable biomass materials.Modification of bamboo-wood pulp fibers with ZIF-8 and CNF is a simple and effective strategy to improve their deodorization performance. In this study, the bamboo-wood fibers and coniferous wood fibers were selected as basic raw materials.ZIF-8 metal-organic framework material nanoparticles and nanocellulose(CNF)were used as deodorization fillers to fabricate novel composite fibers with deodorization and water absorption functions by a simple composite processing process. The effects of the raw material ratio of white bamboo charcoal fiber and coniferous wood fiber,as well as the type and dosage of the fillers,on the microstructure, water absorption and removal of odor gases such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide were inves-tigated.The research results indicated that the optimal process conditions for preparing composite deodorizing fibers were as follows:the dry mass ratio of coniferous wood fibers to white bamboo carbon fibers was 70∶30,the mass fraction of ZIF-8 and CNF were 7%and 6%,respectively,and air-drying treatment was at 23℃for 24 h.The deodo-rization fibers prepared under this parameter condition had deodorization rates of 84.56%and 83.11%for ammonia and hydrogen sulfide with a water absorption capacity at 8.4 g/g.The deodorization performance of the as-prepared bamboo-wood composite fibers was higher than the requirements of the national standard GB/T 33610.2-2017(deo-dorization rate≥70%).Therefore,the deodorization performance of bamboo-wood composite fibers can be effectively improved, achieving the enhancement of added value for the fast-growing hygienic and health care products to balance deodorization and water absorption properties.
