Application of Xiangxi bamboo pattern in furniture design from the perspective of user demands
In order to explore the inheritance and application of Xiangxi bamboo pattern in furniture design and meet the personalized and diversified needs of contemporary users,a circle chair was investigated as an example in this study.Firstly,the circle chair sample library and Xiangxi bamboo pattern element library were created through research and collection of data.Secondly,the literature review and target user interview through questionnaire survey were utilized to obtain user needs,in which,the user needs included the six aspects of appearance requirements,emotional needs,value experience,functionality,and cultural connotation and practicality as the evaluation dimension.The entropy weight method and the technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution were used to integrate user needs.The integrated needs were divided into three dimensions,i.e.,functional needs,appearance needs and emo-tional needs.Analytic Hierarchy Process was utilized to calculate the weight of user needs,and the highest weight was obtained for personalization,value satisfaction,cultural connotation,and functional practical needs,which can be given priority in the process of relevant design.Based on this,the initial shape of the circle chair design was deter-mined from the circle chair sample library and the Xiangxi bamboo knitting element library.The sketch scheme of each circle chair design element was deduced through the modelling deduction rules of the shape grammar.Finally,the judgement correlation of each circle chair sketch scheme was obtained based on the gray correlation analysis method and the best scheme was determined.An internet platform was used as a data source to collect the top four round chairs in comprehensive sales in the past five years as a sample and form an evaluation sample with the best plan.The results showed that the user needs obtained using Analytic Hierarchy Process,the entropy weight method,and the technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution are more accurate through design practice compared to other methods.The feasibility of applying Xiangxi bamboo pattern in furniture design with shape grammar was verified.The application of this design method not only allowed the bamboo weaving culture to be inherited in the furniture design,but also to meet the needs of users,which improved the cultural connotation and aesthetic value of furniture products and provided reference for the implementation of"replacement of plastic by bamboo"in the furniture industry.
