Effect of scoring pretreatment on the properties of polyurethane leather finished plywood
Leather is utilized as a surface decoration material, which not only provides a soft and comfortable sensory experience for users, but also visually neutralizes the sense of distance and coldness conveyed by other materials. In this study, ethylene vinyl acetate(EVA)copolymer film was selected as the intermediate layer and polyurethane(PU)leather as the finishing material to produce leather finished laminating boards. In order to improve the adhesion between leather and plywood, physical scoring treatment was carried out on the plywood surface and the effects of dif-ferent scoring modes("S","H"and"+"scoring modes)and scoring densities(20,40,80,160 and 320 strips/m)on the peel strength, surface adhesion strength and impregnation peel performance of veneer were analyzed. The results demonstrated that the PU leather and plywood were successful bonded together using an EVA interlayer, resulting in a surface adhesive strength of 1.75 MPa.However, the peel resistance was poor as 15.81 N.The use of a physical scoring pretreatment allowed the EVA to penetrate more deeply into the porous structure of the wood to form a mechanical bond that significantly improved the peel resistance of the veneer. The maximum peel strength of the ve-neer(33.06 N)was achieved with"+"damage, which was 109.11%higher than that of the untreated veneer.There-fore,"+"damage was used to explore the effect of scoring density on the properties of veneer panels. The effect of scoring density on the peel resistance of the veneer was small and there was no significant increase in peel resistance when the scoring density was increased from 40 to 320 strips/m.However,the use of physical damage reduced the strength of the substrate itself, when the"H1,damage was used, the surface adhesion strength was only 1.15 MPa,which was 34.29%lower compared with that of the untreated sample, and the 11 type impregnation peeling test ap-peared uneven peeling, but still could meet the requirements of Chinese national standard GB/T 15104-2021 for sur-face adhesion strength(≥0.40 MPa).When the scoring density was 320 strips/m,EVA could be better infiltrated in-to the plywood and its surface bond strength was increased to 1.86 MPa.The results of this study can provide a theo-retical basis for improving the gluing performance of veneer panels and expanding the application range of leather ve-neer panels.
