Low carbon preparation process and properties of graphite doped particleboard
Wood and other plant materials have low thermal conductivity, resulting in inefficient heat transfer during the hot-pressing process of particleboards, which hinders the achievement of the"Double carbon"goal. To address this challenge, this study introduced graphite,a material with excellent thermal conductivity, and investigated the effects of different graphite additions(1%,3%,5%),mass ratios(1∶1∶1,0.5∶1∶1.5,1.5∶1∶0.5)of graphite with different particle sizes(45,11,6.5 µm),and hot-pressing temperatures(150,170,190 ℃)on the physical and mechanical properties of particleboard and its density distribution.Changes in internal temperature and water vapor pressure of the particleboard during hot-pressing were also examined. The results showed that the bending strength, modulus of elasticity, internal bonding strength, and screw withdrawal of particleboard were significantly influenced by graphite additions, while the 24 h thickness swelling rate of particleboard was mainly affected by graphite particle size ratios. With the increase of graphite addition(l%-5%),the internal bonding strength, modulus of elasticity, bending strength,24 h thickness swelling rate, and screw withdrawal of particleboard decreased. At a graphite addition of 1%,the internal bonding strength of particleboards prepared under hot-pressing temperatures of 150,170,and 190℃ increased by 13.2%,30.4%and 9.8%,respectively,compared to the particleboard without graphite added. The minimum 24 h thickness swelling rate of particleboard was achieved with a graphite particle size ratio of 1∶1∶1.The performance of particleboard improved with increasing hot-pressing temperature, when the graphite particle size ratio and addition amount were fixed at 1∶1∶1 and 1%,the introduction of graphite increased the temperature and steam pressure inside the slab during hot-pressing at 150,170 and 190 ℃,especially at lower hot-pressing temperatures. At hot-pressing temperature of 150 ℃,the addition of graphite caused the core temperature of the slab to be higher than that of the particleboard without graphite added at a hot-pressing temperature of 170 ℃ in the first 180 s of the hot-pressing process.Meanwhile, the addition of graphite also enhanced the thermal conductivity of particleboard, further optimizing the efficiency of the hot-pressing process.Considering all factors, the optimal graphite addition process can be achieved by the addition of 1%graphite,with 1∶1∶1 graphite particle size ratio, and using hot-pressing temperature of 150 ℃.
