As an important part of ecological construction in China,the project of returning farmland to forest aims to improve the eco-logical environment,protect ecological resources,increase the area of forest land,and enhance economic and social benefits.This pa-per evaluates and monitors the socio-economic and ecological benefits of the fallow forest restoration project in Yan'an City,Shaanxi Province,as an example.The results of the study show that the Yan'an City Retired Cultivated Land Forest Project has had an obvi-ous positive impact on improving the local ecological environment,protecting ecological resources,increasing the area of forest land,and improving economic and social benefits,and has made a positive contribution to ecological construction and sustainable develop-ment in China.
