Simulation Model Representing Reality—An Explanation Based on Functionality Realization
The simulation model as the basis of computer simulation method is mainly composed of kernel modules and integration modules. The unique structure of the model results in two novel challenges for people to comprehend the nature of the representational relationships:intrinsic multiple representations and the absence of se-mantic correlations. Many prevailing representation theories prove insufficient in interpreting these relationships in simulation models, thereby prompting us to reflect on the presupposition behind the concept of scientific representa-tion.This research proposes a new explanation by introducing the concept of functionality realization, which helps people understand the flexibility and complexity in simulation practices and avoid the above challenges. We can un-derstand the representational relationship in the simulation model as a ternary relationship between the model, the simulation output, and the target system.
