A Study on Wu Yi Friends-making from Inscriptions on the Portraits
Wu Yi was a famous Confucian scholar,epigrapher,and local chronicler in the Qianlong-Jiaqing periods of the Qing Dynasty.Based on the inscriptions of Wu Yi's portraits collected in the Palace Museum,the researchers examined the relationship between Wu Yi and the writers of the inscriptions and the activities of making friends.It is found that Wu Yi make friends with epigraphy as the medium and formed his friends-making field.Wu Yi engaged with friends by means of correspondence with letters,or compilation of books,or searching steles for ar-chaeological study,or teaching students.These activities not only had an important impact on Wu Yi's personal academic achievements but also had a certain impact on his friends,and promoted the academic development of Henan during the Qianlong-Jiaqing periods.
