Emperor Zhongzong and Emperor Emperor Ruizong successively succeeded to the throne after the collapse of Emperor Gaozong of Tang in 683.During the sensitive period of regime alternation,Wu Zetian,based on her political pursuit and personal feelings,praised the noble character and great achievements of Emperor Gao-zong and portraited him as a unique,perfect,and transcendent emperor with the help of the national burial rite of Emperor Gaozong and literary works.At the same time,Wu Zetian sang praises to the Li Tang regime and the heir emperors,and eventually formed a highly-exaggerated praise of the writing style.Wu Zetian not only ensured her own power but also achieved temporary political stability,thus she gained a short but ideal political effect.These historical facts also provide different perspectivse for understanding Emperor Gaozong and his relationship with Wu Zetian.
