A Study on the Word"拿(na)"with the Meaning of"Pulling Up or Lifting"
"拿(na)"is a commonly used word in Chinese, initially presenting the meanings of"holding"and"arresting".Since the Song Dynasty, the meaning of"拿(na)"has begun to expand significantly. With the frequent use of the structure"拿起(na qi)+NP","拿(na)"gradually acquired the[+upward]meaning of"起(qi)".At the same time, the semantic feature of the noun following"拿(na)"shifted from[-autonomy]to[+autonomy].Subsequently,as the character"起(qi)"was dropped,"拿(na)"began to independently express the meanings of"pulling up or lifting".However, because the meaning of"拿(na)"as"pulling up or lifting"competed with the core meaning of"抬(tai)",and when"拿(na)"is used to mean"pulling up or lifting",it has the same structure as when"拿(na)"presents"using",which easily leads to ambiguity. As the language e-volved,the meanings of"拿(na)"as"pulling up or lifting"gradually declined.By the 1960s,the semantic meanings of"拿(na)"as"pulling up or lifting"have only occasionally been of appearance in a few governmente-ses.
