Evaluating the Research Performances of Tourism Academic Communities of China from 2003 to 2022
By searching with 50 sets of tourism-related keywords in the CNKI Chinese Core Journals Database,CSSCI Database, and CSCD Database, articles from tourism academic journals published between 2003 and 2022 were retrieved. After deduplication and screening,a total of 33 106 tourism academic papers were obtained as the total sample frame for this study. These papers involve 1 167 academic journals,4 727 institutions, and 29 408 authors. The articles evaluate and rank the academic journals that publish tourism academic papers, the authors of the papers, and tourism colleges and research institutions based on metrics such as the number of papers(scores, frequency),and impact(h index,g index). In terms of data processing,VBA was used to preprocess file formats and perform encoding calculations, allowing for a more comprehensive and accurate evaluation of journals, scholars, and institutions, and providing a new method for data processing in academic evaluations. The research findings are mainly reflected in six tables:"Top 50 Journals Publishing Tourism Academic Papers 2003-2022","Journals with an h index≥15 in Tourism Academic Papers Published 2003-2022 and Their g index","Top 100 Tourism Paper Authors by Score 2003-2022","Authors with an H-index≥13 in Published Tourism Papers 2003-2022 and Their g index","Top 100 Tourism Colleges and Research Institutions by Score 2003-2022",and"Institutions with an h index≥20 in Published Tourism Academic Papers 2003-2022 and Their g index".Additionally, the study incorporates the"Three Highs"paper indicator from the CNKI Academic Essentials Database. This indicator, based on the comprehensive resources of CNKI,selects papers that are in the Top 1%in their discipline,in the same year, and of the same type of literature, according to citation frequency, the Paper Citation Standard Index(PCSI),and download frequency.Papers that meet these criteria are identified as highly cited papers, high PCSI papers, and highly downloaded papers, collectively referred to as the"Three Highs"papers, indicating high-impact papers. The article, based on three major academic paper databases and using 50 sets of search terms, selects research subjects from the entire sample, comprehensively and systematically outlining the overview of academic research by members of China's tourism academic community from 2003 to 2022,along with related metric evaluations and their development trends.
