The Art-Tourism Integration Based on Tourism Aesthetic Philosophy:Theoretical Logic and Research Framework
The integration of art and tourism is an important recent development in the field of tourism.Traditionally,integration of arts and tourism has been subordinate to the concept of integration of culture and tourism.However,this approach presents problems such as insufficient explanation and conceptual misunderstandings at the theoretical level,and thus is no longer suitable for practical tourism development in China today.Therefore,in this study,we explore the art-tourism integration based on a tourism aesthetic philosophy,constructing both a theoretical logic and a research framework.First,starting with the clarification of the concept of(tourism)aesthetics,we explore the philosophical foundation of tourism aesthetics from existentialism to humanism and analyze the concept of"aesthetic distance"within the tourism aesthetic philosophy.Second,we explore the two dimensions of art-tourism integration:art tourism and tourism art.Art tourism is a type of tourism that occurs with the purpose of participating in artistic activities,while tourism art involves specific tourism forms and behaviors being regarded as art practices.Thus,we propose a"humanistic experience of art-tourism"based on a tourism aesthetic philosophy.This experience goes beyond the appreciation of specific artistic works to encompass the overall aesthetic experience of tourism.Furthermore,the realization of a"humanistic experience of art-tourism"does not require tourists to have professional-level artistic knowledge,but rather emphasizes the aesthetic process of pursuing human existence experiences and self-realization in tourism,which also represents the process of tourism aesthetics education.Third,we analyze the"host-guest-art"relationship involved in the process of the art-tourism integration.In terms of the relationship between tourists and art,art provides tourists with aesthetic experiences and consumption opportunities,while tourists react by disseminating the local art through various media including texts,photos,videos,and social media posts,thereby achieving"re-creation".In terms of the relationship between the destination(host)and tourists,the destination provides an artistic space for tourists,while the tourists become a part of the construction of the destination.They also create emotional connections with the location through art,thereby achieving value co-creation between the host and the tourists.Fourth,we explore the research framework regarding the art-tourism integration,including connotations and dimensions(macro-level grand narrative/micro-level humanistic experience),nature and influence(economic/political/social/cultural/locality/humanistic),and production and function(supply side/demand side).Finally,we identify new opportunities for a humanistic experience in relation to art-tourism integration in the era of artificial intelligence.Overall,the art-tourism integration not only provides enormous economic value,but also serves as an important tool for urban and rural destinations aiming to promote local renewal and development.Therefore,in this study,we provide a theoretical framework encompassing the key stages of the art-tourism integration in China with the aim of promoting the development of humanistic values at both the social and individual levels.
