THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SERUM URIC ACID LEVELS AND DISEASE ACTIVITY IN AS
Objective To investigate relationships between serum uric acid and disease activity in ankylo-sing spondylitis(AS).Methods A total of 297 AS patients were included in this retrospective study. The assessment of AS disease activity is based on the ASDAS score calculated by CRP.The severity of sacroili-itis was evaluated by MRI-SPARCC scoring system. Results The serum uric acid of AS patients was nega-tively correlated with ESR、CRP and ASDAS(P<0.01).The serum uric acid levels of AS patients with extremely high disease activity are significantly lower than those of other groups with low disease activity(P<0.05).The levels of ESR,CRP,and ASDAS in AS patients with hyperuricemia were significantly lower than those without hyperuricemia patients(P<0.01),but there was no significant difference in MRI-SPARCC scores(P>0.05).Conclusion Moderately elevated blood uric acid levels in AS patients may help to weaken inflammatory responses.
