Connection,Isolation, and Communicability:A Study of the Mediatization of Roads
With an emphasis on the function and impact of roads, current research frameworks view roads as objects, which deconstructs their subjectivity.Under the perspective of media ontology, the mediatization of roads lies in their role as mediator"guiding"people's behavior, forming connecting yet isolated social rela-tionships.Following this research path, roads are not only a perspective but also a research orientation and methodological implementation, changing from their subordinate role as tools for connecting subject and object to independent entities capable of determining people's existential mode and reflecting their entities independent of the state of being.Accordingly,history,practices,time-space and metaphors related to human existence all present specific aspects of roads and serve as ways to articulate them. The core value of road mediatization lies in its communicability and the research on the communicability of roads is therefore an innovative paradigm. With communicability as a basic point, its theory is built on people's road practices by taking mediator,"guidance"and communication as presuppositions and targets to examine road construction.Making use of the smart road construction, the development of road"communicability"should aim to estab-lish a four-tier network system comprising networks of communication, society, information and meaning.
