Frontier Consciousness,Ethnic Minority Literature and View of Contemporary China
In modern China's transition from dynastic empire to nation-state,the consciousness of frontier, and the discovery, imagination, and writing of frontier people formed the conceptual basis of a unified multi-ethnic Chinese nation. The rethinking and complexification of international geography and domestic space signified changes in China's cognition of the external and internal world and self. The active and passive migrations and movements, caused by multiple factors at home and abroad, have led to the reconstruction of geography, politics, society and values, thus forming a socialist sovereign country with Chinese characteris-tics.Meanwhile,the inclusion of different cultures within the country balanced commonalities and particulari-ties,which facilitated the reconstruction of a multi-ethnic community of P.R.China.This process of subject reconstruction has determined the contemporary attributes of ethnic minority literature as an embodiment of China's national will and cultural expression. The construction of the subordination of minority literature to the new system and paradigm of socialist culture is a component of the overarching Chinese nation's aesthet-ic community, leading to a collective aesthetic style. After various waves of"post-isms"since the reform and opening up,there arises a necessity to reaffirm the legacy of cultural practices during the early socialist period and to reshape the aesthetics of the community for the Chinese nation.
