Examining the Establishment time of the Library of Lanzhou University
The establishment of Lanzhou University can be traced back to 1909,when its predecessor,the Gansu Government Law and Politics School was established.However,there has long been no definitive historical acknowledgment of the establishing time of the University library,leading to various interpreta-tions.On the one hand,opinions vary within Lanzhou University Library.In the 20th century,the opinions about the establishing time include the period of the Gansu Public Law and Politics School,1946,and 1927.In the 21st century,the widely accepted opinion is that the library was established in 1909,the establishing year of the University.On the other,two versions of the University's history contain divergent opinions on the establishing time of the library,namely,1928 and the period of Gansu College.Researchers mostly accept the establishing times stated by the University itself directly or indirectly.Through textual analysis of histori-cal archives of the University and relevant historical documents,the present paper holds that the establishing time of the library is supposed to be between 1926 and February 1929.This period corresponds to the late phase of the Gansu Public Law and Politics School and the early stage of Lanzhou Zhongshan University.The library building had existed in the University not later than 1927,but the library may not have been officially established then.Therefore,it can be inferred that the library was officially established in 1928,when Lanzhou Zhongshan University was newly established.
