The Innovation Process of Long Opera Since the 20th Century and Its Theatrical Historical Value
Due to the overlapping contributors of time,territory and major historical events,the innovative development of Long Opera has fused with multifaceted factors including the inheritance of a regional opera and the realistic needs based on the development of the state and nation.Aiming to discover the multiple cul-tural values of the innovations,the research on the history of Long Opera and its position in Chinese opera history is multidimensional in integrating the troupes,texts,performances and field studies.Historically,Long Opera evolved from early 20th century opera reform to the opera campaign in the revolutionary base areas,from the"small-scale opera"-traditional east Gansu province's Daoqing Opera to"large-scale opera"-modern Long Opera,and from the east Gansu's troupes to contemporary ones.As the birth and evolution of Long Opera and its opera-genre orientation manifest the CPC's policies on literature and art,this opera can be regarded as a carrier of the Red culture.From the perspective of the history of opera,Long Opera,as the then emerging opera genre,has gone through three development periods:troupes accompanying the army,troupes in Yan'an Opera School,and professional theatres and troupes.Such avant-guard explora-tions can be used as a reference for other opera genres.In conclusion,Long Opera not only represents a form of innovative development of traditional operas,but also the continuation of the Red spirit and a product of the revolutionary culture.
