Membrane proteins mediating nitrogen transport in higher plants
NO?3 and NH+4 are two major exogenous N sources in soil for plants. NRT and AMT transporters are involved in their uptake in roots and transport in plants, respectively. Organic nitrogen including amino acids, ureides and peptides could also be absorbed and transported by corresponding transporters in plants. In this review, recent advances in the biological function regulation of nitrate, ammonium and organic nitrogen transporters and the relationship between nitrogen nutrition and plants were summarized. And finally, research hotspots and directions regarding nitrogen transporters were put forward.
