Analysis of anti-overturning/slipping and reinforcing structure of a continuous box girder curved bridge with a single column pier under extra heavy vehicle loads
Based on the analysis of many overturning and collapse accidents of a multi span continuous box girder bridges supported by a single column pier,it was proposed that the important cause of the over-turning of a continuous box girder bridge was the combined effects of rolling and slipping of the main beam under the eccentric action of extra heavy vehicle loads.Taking the three-span continuous box girder curved bridge in Ezhou,Hubei Province,as the engineering background, the theoretical calculation and finite element analysis of anti-rolling and anti-slipping were carried out,and an integral anti-slip reinforc-ing structure proposed. The results showed that the accident bridge had high anti-rolling ability, but the anti-slipping ability was obviously insufficient. The tangential force under the eccentric action of extra heavy vehicle loads was significantly greater than the maximum resistance of the support, and the main beam was prone to slip. The reinforcement method of simply increasing the anti-rolling ability of the bridge rather than increasing the anti-slipping ability had a poor effect. The continuous box girder bridge had a strong anti-slipping and anti-rolling ability after adopting the integral anti-slip reinforcing struc-ture,and the main beam would not overturn under the eccentric action of extra heavy load.
