To investigate the effects of different-frequency whole body vibration training(WBV)on learn-ing and memory ability of ovariectomized rats and its mechanism,40 female SD rats were divided into a sham operation group(Sham group),ovariectomy group(OVX group),ovariectomy+high frequency whole body vibration training group(HWBV group,35 Hz)and ovariectomized+low frequency whole body vibration training group(LWBV group,15 Hz).A water maze test was used to test the learning and memory ability of each group of rats, and the levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)and activities of glutathione peroxidase(GPx)and superoxide dismutase(SOD)in serum, prefrontal cortex, cerebral cortex and hippocampus were detected. The results showed that, compared with the Sham group, the OVX group showed spatial learning disabilities and short-term memory impairment.High-frequency WBV improved these learning and memory impairment in ovariectomized rats, while low-frequency WBV only had a slight improvement.Compared with the Sham group, the levels of BDNF in the serum, prefrontal cortex, cerebral cortex and hippocampus of the OVX group were significantly decreased, and activities of GPx and SOD significantly decreased. The levels of BDNF and GPx and SOD in serum,pre-frontal cortex, cerebral cortex and hippocampus of the HWBV group were significantly higher than those of the OVX and LWBV group.High-frequency WBV could improve learning and memory impairment in ovariectomized rats, which mechanism might be related to the increase of BDNF and anti-oxida-tion in rat serum and brain regions.
