Based on the data of water resources bulletin,we adopted the methods of linear trend fitting and Mann-Kendall mutation test, analyzed the present situation and evolution characteristics of water use in the Gansu section of Yellow River basin in 2001-2020.The results showed that the average annual water consumption in Gansu section in Yellow River basin is about 4.22×109m3 from 2001 to 2020,with an average annual decrease of 1.17%and a rapid downward trend after 2014.Agriculture was the first largest water consumption sector, the industry the second, and other sectors were residential, ecological and urban public water.About 80%of the agricultural water consumption accounting for the total water consumption decreased by 0.28%annually,and about 10%industrial water consumption accounting for the total water consumption decreased by 5.6%annually.About 10%of the residents'living, and ecologi-cal and urban public water consumption increased by 0.87%,13.73%and 4.88%respectively.The analy-sis of influencing factors showed that changes in industrial water consumption and rural residents'water consumption had been the main factors affecting the decrease of total water consumption.
