Based on the land use and normalized difference vegetation index data from 2000 to 2020 in Lanzhou New District, land use dynamic degree, land use transfer matrix and Theil-Sen median trend analysis were used to explore the changes in land use,and the vegetation cover was spatially extracted to analyze the trend and its response to land use.The results showed that the primary land use types in the study area were cultivated land and grassland, but the proportions of the two decreased during the study period. The proportion of construction land continued to increase, accounting for 17.94%of the total land area of the study area by 2020.The transfer of other land to construction land after 2010 was the primary type of land use transfer. The rate of land transfer accelerated significantly after 2015,with a large amount of cultivated land and grassland becoming construction land. The water body area continued to in-crease,and the proportion of unutilized and forest land changed from increasing to decreasing.Vegetation cover in the study area was generally characterized by cultivated land>forest>grassland, with a fluctuat-ing upward trend of higher vegetation cover in the central part and lower vegetation cover in the southern and northern parts of the study area. The degraded vegetation areas were mainly distributed in the eastern and southwestern parts of the mountainous areas, around the urban areas and the land under construct ion.
