To investigate the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle(CCEC),the annual data spanning was chosen from 2010 to 2019 to establish an assessment framework for measuring the sustainable development across four dimensions:economic, society, science and technology culture, and resources. The entropy method was employed to measure the sustainability level of the CCEC,and quadrant method and elasticity coefficient method utilized to assess the status of sustainable urbanization. The results indi-cated that most regions within the CCEC were experiencing a gradual improvement in their sustain-ability levels.Certain areas demonstrated a significant and pronounced decline in sustainability.Notably, there existed a marked"discontinuity"in sustainability levels across the region, with the highest scores recorded in Chongqing downtown area and Chengdu. There was a noteworthy reduction in the gap when a comparison was made with other regions, which occurred on an annual basis. The majority of regions were currently in the phase of sustainable urbanization, with exceptions in some areas experienc-ing unsustainable development. The Chongqing downtown area and Chengdu were principally confronted with substantial challenges stemming from resource and environmental issues, along with social welfare concerns.Other regions faced hindrances primarily due to lower levels of economy and science and tech-nology culture.
